Jay McRoy, author of Nightmare Japan: Contemporary Japanese Horror Cinema declared Tetsuo: The Iron Man as being "one of the most influential Japanese horror films ever produced" which "spurred the emergence of an increasingly visceral and graphically violent wave of Japanese horror films."
